History of the Tigers
The Tigers Hockey Club is one of the founding Darwin hockey clubs, and has come a long way since 1949 when we were the Works and Housing Hockey Club competing in men's hockey competition with only one team.
1949 - Works and Housing Hockey Club (Men's)
1953 - Comworks (Women's)
1965 - Nightcliff Hockey Club (Men's, Women's)
early 1980's - Darwin Hockey competition moved from the Gardens oval to the Alawa hockey oval on Lakeside Drive.
1986 - Darwin Hockey competition moved from Alawa to the artifical turf fields at Marrara Hockey Centre.
1992 - University Tigers Hockey Club
2003 - Nightcliff University Tigers Hockey Club
The name of our club may of changed over the years but the Tigers Hockey Club has a strong history of survival, weathering some tough times. One thing is for sure, the culture of social enjoyment established by the foundation sides still remains a strong part of today's club.
Life Members
Our volunteers are our lifeblood, without them Tigers Hockey Club would not be able to function. Recognition such as life membership is just one of the ways we like to reward our tireless volunteers.
